Veils

How to create artwork which tries to subvert prejudice? How to question the use of violence without depicting it, and adding to its glorification?

Within the continuous violent strife in Northern Ireland the civilian population suffers the majority of deaths. Of these, too many are due to "errors" on the part of paramilitary and army organizations, or, to sectarian hatred and reprisal killings.

I have chosen not to react in kind to this ongoing violence, but instead, to identify, by naming, a few of these people. This process, for me, is a confirmation of their, and our, fragile and valued humanity and a disavowal of their untimely deaths.
